Continuing on with our magical places in Europe. Budapest is one to add to the list. Budapest was one of the more unique places I visited and one I really recommend if you're looking to travel in eastern Europe. Not to mention it is nothing shy of a good time.
One of the things you have to do in Budapest is climb to the top of the citadel. A hike not for the faint of heart but so worth it when you get to the top.
If you're into bars, partying, etc. Budapest is the place to go. I don't think I've ever had so much fun in one city. If this is your scene the one thing you must do is go to a thermal pool party. Going during the day is fine, especially if you're not into this, but at night picture a club in a pool that is the temperature of a hot tub and this is what you have. I wouldn't stay all night as these events get a little... eh... grimy but the experience is worth it.
If you have the chance to do a bar crawl, definitely do it. In one night I went to a classy bar with twinkle lights hanging above to a bar playing heavy metal. The people are so friendly and down to have a good time, all ages. If you're staying at a hostel they have so many events you can pre-pay for and they'll take you to (how I was able to do the bar crawl and thermal pool party) so take advantage of this! If you're not staying in a hostel, no worries! You can still find these events, just do a little research 🙂 Definitely make sure to convert enough cash as most places only accept cash in Budapest. *Pro tip: also make sure to get adjusted to the currency, 10,000 forts is actually nothing.
Overall, Budapest is gorgeous, an amazing trip if you want to do A LOT of walking and exploring. I loved the food (a lot of cheese and sour cream and carbs) and am pretty upset there aren't any true Hungarian restaurants back in the states. Be sure to leave some time to take an afternoon nap if you're going to explore the night scene! I met some amazing people in Budapest just by staying in the hostel and exploring around. This city gave me an experience I will never forget so I hope you give it the chance to do the same for you.
