My gauge of judging how much I like a particular city has pretty much turned into:
1. Wouldn't visit again 2. Love and need to visit again 3. Would live here
Milan is definitely at 3. Would live here status.
Maybe its because I'm a grade A shopaholic... but no seriously this city is gorgeous. I love a city that has a New York feel (no shocker there) but also a city without a super touristy feel. I loved Rome for the culture but it's so dense with tourists it becomes exhausting and can be a little tacky. Milan is clean, the people are even more fashion forward than Paris, and the shops are nothing less than extraordinary.
The one main attraction to Milan is the Duomo (cathedral in Italian, in case you were curious). It is huge and gothic and beautiful. A must see.
All around the Duomo are streets with, you guessed it, shops. Prada, Dior, and of course Italy's pride and joy Dolce and Gabbana (which is noted by D&G being the most common and largest store fronts all around Milan). Window shopping in Milan is a must.
But when you get depressed after looking at that pair of 900€ Jimmy Choos for far too long there are plenty of adorable moderately and reasonably priced shops (on top of your 3 floor Zara and H&Ms) and even outlet shops.
After living in 2 world fashion capitals, maybe Milan will be next, along with owning a pink Vespa (which I did in fact see in Milan). Definitely a city I would recommend visiting, maybe not for a culture heavy experience, but certainly for a weekend of relaxing retail therapy.
