Review of The Something Navy x Nordstrom Collection

Hellooo fashionistas,

How is everyone doing? I have an exclusive post for everyone today. I've been meaning to write this post for a few weeks and I thought what better time to do a review of the Something Navy x Nordstrom Collection other than right before the second drop in a few hours!

I purchased 2 items from the Something Navy collection back in September and of course browsed the entire collection wondering if I should buy more. I've loved Arielle's blog for so long, like many fashion bloggers have, and was curious about the collection but really did not have any big intention on buying anything. Once I saw the pieces live, the color pallete was right up my ally and my competitive mentality was high so I knew I had to be a part of the many thousands of people waiting online for the site glitches to be fixed so I could make a purchase. I ultimately ended up buying the Slouchy Narrow Label Blazer in Pink Carnation and the Low Neckline Slouchy Pullover in Heather Grey. So now of course you are probably wondering, was it worth the hype?

Style: If you read Something Navy and find yourself bookmarking Arielle's instas for style inspo you're of course going to love what she designed for her brand collab line. These pieces were very minimalist but also versatile and can be worn in and out of the office as well as on the fall weekends for brunch or dinner. I love the blazer for work as I wear so much head-to-toe black that a pop of color was a well needed change of pace. The sweater is just the right amount of oversized, I've worn it everywhere from work to brunch and have worn it alone as well as layered under blazers (as shown above) and jackets alike.

Quality: I must say I was most satisfied with the quality of these pieces especially for what the pricing was. The blazer is on the heavier side and can be worn in the fall temperatures alone while still keeping you warm, for $99 this I think was well worth the price. Most blazers of this quality run from $180 and up. The oversized sweater has a very soft hand is a great fall basic. I've thrown it in the wash and dryer (not sure if that is intended, I'm horrible with reading labels) and it held up extremely well and is still as soft as when I first received it. Once again I think this was well worth the price of $79 as I've felt knitwear upwards of $500 and it is does not always have as soft of a hand as mid-range price sweaters.

Sizing: The sizing for me was the trickiest part of this line. Brand sizing these days varies so greatly there really isn't one guide that fits. I am typically between a Small and a Medium. With more mature brands I lean towards buying smalls and fast fashion/ younger brands (i.e. H&M, Zara, Asos) I typically lean towards a Medium. I ordered a Small in both products and still found I could've gone down a size in both. The blazer was for sure due to my height (or lack thereof) and with a bit of tailoring can be made to fit my height in the sleeves and length but for now I've just been wearing it as an oversized blazer or with the sleeves scrunched. The sweater I could have gone down in size but it doesn't look too crazy because the intended fit is for it to be oversized. Overall, I would say if you fluctuate in sizing to take the smaller size and if something is oversized to definitely go down. For the slimmer pieces I would stick with your true size.

I hope this gives a little bit of insight on the brand and what to expect for the second drop!

Tips for shopping the November collection today at 9 am:

  • Be sure to login at exactly 9 am and be signed in with your Nordstrom account for faster checkout.
  • Download the Nordstrom app. The app had far less glitches than the site itself and was what made it possible for me to actually make a purchase.
  • Never hurts to buy more than less! These products are in such high demand if you don't like something you can always find someone probably willing to pay a little more than retail value for it (big fangirls out there).
  • Accessories will usually sell out last.

Comment below and let me know what you've bought, what you intend on buying, and any other insight you have that we'll find helpful! Hopefully I'll find some great pieces as well to be able to do a part 2 of this post so stay tuned. xo.
