Happy Thanksgiving week! No better week to share the newest styles of the season than the biggest sale week of the year. Let's see what damage will be done by the end of Friday. Today we're taking it back to our prep school and college days to discuss the latest style that is about to bring all the nostalgia. To really tie it together, all the images for this post were taken on Yale's campus.
It doesn't take much trend research to realize that the varsity trend is coming in full force within the upcoming months. Calvin Klein made that loud and clear in their Resort '19 collection. Zara has already been slyly slipping in plaid prep school vibe skirts into their racks. Other brands as well are bringing back their original varsity inspiration like Tommy (repping above) and Kors, even Gucci's FW '18 show included some looks that suggested the trend was on its way in... and it has officially arrived. As one who mandatorily had to dress in varsity/ uniform prep for upwards of 12 years this is a style I can put together effortlessly in my sleep. While pairing a varsity letter cardigan with a plaid skirt hits a little too close to home, I'm all for a high-rise jean, casual sneaker, and swapping in and out between an oversized and a cropped varsity cardigan. Style like Calvin with oversized jumpers or even take a Gucci route with knee length sweater dresses that have a varsity flair with an embroidered deep V and hem.
To tie everything together pair your look with a simple sneaker like a Golden Goose or an adidas superstar (never Converse if you're reading my blog 😉 ) , make it more street style with a M2K, dress it up with an over the knee boot or maybe even a strappy sandal.
There's so many ways to incorporate this trend into your daily style and the best part is you can make it as high-end as you would like or pull out your university jumpers to style in a way that won't break the bank. If you need some inspo, as always, shop below for my personal favorites.
