Now that spring is right around the corner it's a perfect time to talk about the beautiful Barcelona. Barcelona sells itself for reasons why to travel there but I'll give you a few anyway 🙂
- The food: It does not matter if you stop at a local empanada shop or go to a high end, sit down restaurant, the food all around Barcelona does not disappoint (and this goes for wine as well). If you're planning your trip far in advance, I 100% recommend going sometime during the weekend of Mercat de Merchats ("The Market of Markets" in Catalan) which is held in October (date unannounced yet for 2017) but this market is your go-to if you're a foodie or just want to experience some culture. There are so many great options and discount packages for food and wine. We spent an entire day here and it is well worth it!
- The location: You can climb hills to get to Park Güell or walk on the sandy beaches down below. Regardless, Barcelona has it all. Be sure to pack you walking shoes!
- Events: Once again, I would not regret going to Barcelona in the fall at.all. Missing out on Munich's Oktoberfest was made up for when I was able to go to Barcelona's Oktoberfest. This was crazy fun. Make sure you do a few arm strength workouts if you plan to attend this one, those beer mugs don't hold themselves.
- Architecture, the culture, and the PEOPLE. From the Arc to the gothic cathedrals (a must see) to the amazing people who were so friendly, there's a little bit of Barcelona for everyone.
So whether you're planning a trip to Barcelona in the spring or fall or just debating if you want to go, know these seasons are amazing because it is still gorgeous beach weather but minus the crowd. If you're into clubbing, all the clubs along the beaches are the places to be at night. We stayed in Hostel 1 Sants the Sants area of Barcelona which is about a 20-30 minute metro ride to all the major destinations so not bad if you're looking to stay at a place on a budget! One of my favorite hostels overall.
Whatever reason you're going to Barcelona (or whether it be for no reason at all) you'll thoroughly enjoy this wonderful city!
